Completed Change 5th rules of skipping and add an announcement about trap skipping (1 Viewer)

Hewo again, I want to suggest a change of the 5th rule to allow skipping traps when it's a freerun.

Reasons to change:
  • Because current top maps don't have a skipping problems, in top 30 there are only 3 maps with more than 1 skippable trap via bhop
  • Old maps which have skipping problems are picked extremely rarely (I'll make a post about removing them in a few hours)
  • The old maps with skipping problem do not have endings, only insta win so not letting people end the map as quick as possible when the death gave a freerun is boring
  • If death can bait people into traps by doing a fake freerun then players should be able to do something mean either which would be simply skipping traps (If skipping traps on the freerun would be allowed of course)
Beside that I also suggest adding a chat announcement about skipping traps or a command explaining it like !skipping which would show a msay about it or would be a direct link to the rule explanation page.

as stabbin is "core" admin of deathrun he should aswell leave his thoughts in here.

I'd love to go over the maps with you, and see if there truly are no problems.

Death killing people with traps, even after lying about a freerun, is part of the game. The whole gamemode is about guessing if the death is going to activate a trap or not. Skipping traps isn't part of the gamemode, and was never intended to be part of it.. Skipping is an unfair advantage caused by bhop that we want to avoid. Bhop is great for trying to get a little advantage into baiting an activation, but it should never be used to defeat the entire point of the gamemode (inability to die, due to runners skipping).

In my opinion if we allow weapons this won't be an issue anymore as the traps get activated when you shoot on the buttons, giving skippers a harder time

Uhh well it doesn't really matter since you can still +use the buttons to activate traps instantly in some maps.

The issue is catching up with the skippers when they're already far away from you. Say, someone is skipping and is close to the end but you can't get close enough to activate the trap with your melee/+use, you can try to shoot it with the pistol for example and depending on the trap he could die, get blocked by the invis wall of the trap or more.
Although this isn't the place to discuss the addition of weapons as there's already a thread about it i wanted to still point out how beneficial it'd be for the Death to have them

Yeah, it'll help, but there is more to it. Most maps suffer from the fact that death is on the outside "track" (like when track running there's staggering). Buttons are around corners, and can't be shot.
Take dr_missing for example, it has death on the outside "track", and death can't keep up with bhoppers that build speed in spawn, not even with the speed boost near the back of death's area.
 
There's 2 more issues that need to be pointed out. Even if the death can catch up with people who are skipping, the skipper can already have skipped one or several individual traps, baiting their activation while making it impossible to be killed by them. In other words, damage is already done by that point. And then I am not even mentioning the fact that a death chasing a skipper can cause the entire rest of the team to move forward several traps in the time it takes death to take care of them. Maps are designed to be played normally; wasting a single trap due to unfair reasons can be detrimental to the death's chances of victory.

That first point didn't go into skipping during free runs as much; but the second issue is that, while I largely agree with the points made in the OP, people skipping traps during free rounds can still "promote" the use of these techniques in other rounds. Yes, people shouldn't be doing that, but people in general are often not as smart as you'd like. It's for the same reason that the community has a strict rule against advertising hacks, even going so far as to forbid mentioning names of cheats or websites where you can get them. The vast majority of people punished as a result of breaking this rule never used hacks themselves (or at least not in the servers). It's just a matter of principle, with rule of thumb being: if there is no really good reason to allow exceptions, just say no to 100% of people doing something to avoid as much trouble with it as possible.
