Hopjb. The most iconic jb map out there. I remember when dodgeball was in a room with a piano.

V8, for the longest time, was the most popular version of the map. I will be listing the notable changes that V12 had to offer in comparison to V8.

1 Deathrun became Battle boats ( which is never played)
2 Sumo replace 9square ( which is restricted to only 4 players)
3 Added jetpack minigame ( 4 player minigame that is never played )
4 Added a bowling alley ( Only truthfully used for as warday or death request, not many wardens use this minigame sadly)
5 Added a better disco minigame ( truthfully the best addition of V12)
6 Replaced 4 square with prop hunt ( a hide n seek-esque minigame that requires a specific amount of reds, can't be played if there is a rebeller, is plagued with visual glitches that show floating cosmetics throughout when in spectator)
7 Added a secret to allow players to become mini (truthfully this secret is easily cheesable as scout with Boston basher)



The new additions of these maps truthfully are not worth it. Almost every minigame listed is rarely played or requires a specific amount of players to EVEN play it.

Deathrun was a staple for HopJB and now is replaced with a minigame no one ever touches. A large fraction of the map is seemingly useless.

Truthfully the map both play the same in terms of rebelling minus a secret for going mini and 1 ammo spot. I don't see any negatives for bringing this map back.
 
I would only be willing to vote to add v8 alongside v12, i believe that the new minigames are not a hinderance and a lot of the new minigames are well liked. Feels bad to trade one for another in my honest opinion.

I believe we had both in rotation and given how currently we are very reluctant to incorporate a higher map cooldown, we were on a version of hop every other 4 maps and people grown tired of it ( which I can understand) Unless we can actually add the increase map cooldown suggestion ( which won popular vote like 3 times in a row but still isn't added) then I would completely be for it to be added alongside v12.

both would be good. V12 has the best prop hunt out of all the maps in rotation, and I don't think it's worth getting rid of all the other new minigames just for deathrun.
 
Poll has been reset to include the third option of having both maps at suggestor's request.

I cannot wait for the complaints that the map that people like to play is played more, if we add both.
 
Like them or not, Prop Hunt and Sumo at least have become staples of Hopjb and I'd pick them any day over Nine Square or Four Corners, two minigames you can find on many other maps.

The deathrun on v8 had not even been changed since b3 (the oldest version of hopjb that's available). I'm sorry but the deathrun of the old hopjb is just so basic and bare-looking, I wouldn't call it a staple of hopjb (although I wouldn't argue that people probably would like it better than battle boats).

Battle boats is actually played more often than you think, same with bowling. I do however hardly see Jetpack game be played, though it's functional.

Having both maps in our map pool would double how overplayed the most overplayed map in our pool is, and in my opinion, there honestly isn't enough changes to warrant having both in our map pool.
 
No. Just no. Having both, even with increased map cd will STILL end up with one of the two maps being played with at MOST 3 maps inbetween. And that's only under the pretence of both maps being played back to back. I'm already tired of playing hop every few maps as it is. I don't want more hop. We're trying to promote MORE map variety. We shouldn't be adding two of the same map into rotation. At all.
 
I'll be real with you: I consider v12 a direct upgrade to v8 in every sense. Better minigames, Better ways to rebel, (Not inherently a bad thing,) More to do than just climb, honestly I love it. I really don't want to see v8 back anyways for a lot of the blander minigames on there.

Most of these criticisms I could debunk in a couple ways:

Buns (The map creator) himself said reason he replaced it is because he's sick of lazy wardens playing deathrun over and over every single day since it's the closest and low chance of rebels. Look at Minecraft (any of the versions) with deathrun next to it. Even the one we have, at least half the time wardens pick it over obby or other games since it's the closest. I feel like it gets a bad rep anyways. It's mid, but it doesn't deserve a removal.

Ummm, cry about it. Raise your hand if you actually, unironically want to play 9square over any other minigame. And over SUMO too, a really fun game. It is jank, but it's really fun.

Ok this is kind of fair, but still, mid game that gets a bad rep.

It's probably the best bowling I've seen done on any map so far. It just placed a bit far away which is why they don't choose it that much. And even if not for the minigame, than for something else to do in the Burger King area, make it less desolate and empty.

I'm pretty certain for the cosmetics part Buns could tweak it some more to fix that. And, like before, raise your hand if you'd unironically choose 4corners over any other minigame on the map. And like Nergal said before, prophunt is a staple of it now, I don't see a reason for it to leave. Sure, the "all reds have to be in here" mechanic is bull, but I could probably ask Buns to make it like Miami's prophunt where you just need all the blu's inside.

Also fair point. Just wish it was easier to grab people up there as a blu. Maybe give the blus a balcony on top of the tower next to the control point, so you could get a better shot at them. If anything, yeah this is probably the most valid, but I don't think 1/6 valid arguments is a valid reason to add back v8.

But yeah, there's my two cents.

This here is the OG suggestion that got V8 removed. I'd highly suggest giving it all a read as many of the points brought up 2 years ago still apply. v8 is an objectively inferior version of the map and people only want it for the oldest deathrun in jb history. It's a subpar DR and all the other minigames that were removed from v8 going into the newer versions are nothingburgers.
Would we SERIOUSLY consider adding two essentially identical maps into rotation. We have gone past that point where we had two versions of like 4 maps in rotation. It's either one version of the map or none. And it makes no sense to go for a direct downgrade to a map we already have in rotation.

here are things i don't like

  1. cell area looks ugly as shit
  2. disco is now not even a mini-game unlike in v12
  3. blue armoury looks shit
  4. the four corners game is just like any map no reason for a revert for this game
  5. the death run is predictable and to be fair we have plenty of death run maps already in the map rotation

sorry but for all these reasons and more it's a NO from me
 
I'm going to be honest, I ONLY miss deathrun of V8. Battle Boats is just a very wonky game.

I like the changes they did with V12, if only Prop hunt could be done with more players, the rebel problem wasn't there and the visual bugs are fixed.
My spot got revealed many times due to the prop/contracts of the spectators.

Sure Sumo barely gets done due to the player limit (and it was problem of big server crashes once 🤣 ), and games like bowling alley and jetpack are RARE minigames. But when it gets done, players like it. (I think the main issue with bowling is the wideness but cramped layout + far to get to, and with jetpack the position of where it is + player limit).

If only DR wasn't removed then this map would've been, even though I have nostalgia, a very high tier map in my opinion.
I'm voting no due to my reasons stated above here.

I have one big issue though with this version of the map, but before I'll post that rant here I'll test the functionality first and report back to Semi.
 
Alright, after some testing on HopJB myself with a red, I have one complaint:
The biggest issue I have in this version of HopJB is the vent in boxgame.

I love that there is a way to escape, but (forgive my boldness) there is no way to get inside the vent once a few reds are inside. You need to have a soldier, scout or demo (atleast a class with air velocity) to get inside the vent.
The buttons are a one time use sadly.

And worst of all: no way to destroy that vent from the outside in the cell area. You can't shoot that vent open.
I find that one of the most annoying things I've seen and not the best addon given to V12. You either need air velocity classes or an admin online to solve this issue.

That is my one true complaint, aside from the DR removal. Luckily the pro's are bigger than the cons, but I find that the most annoying thing and makes me not want to do boxgame to avoid this.

the vent thing is a auto KOS zone so any red seen in that area is kos so if they delay by hiding in their for example hns/hg rounds it changes nothing as the warden can just give lr to anyone not in that area.

however i think if the map creator made the vent breakable by the other siddde it would also be nice.


just note anyone delebratley using this to avoid being killed and ddelay the round (LGKA) could be report for exploiting given they are meant to take the ammo and leave and not camp it

I believe we’re running a version of the map that fixes that? I can’t recall though. Believe the button has a cooldown now, though I’m unsure if that is the case.
