Hey,
I wanted to suggest an idea I had, which could be used on any server, but I am suggesting it for Jailbreak in particular. Nostalgia November. What is Nostalgia November? Nostalgia November is an event in which older maps will be put temporarily into the pool. Although I say November, that would be excessive over the period of one month, and I am suggesting running it during the week of Thanksgiving, since many people will have off work, and many of panda's US players are students and will have a larger break from classes. If this idea is approved, we would gather a map pool of older maps, particularly ones which used to be in rotation, including older updates of current maps, and gather around 10 maps (that work) to add to the pool. I am suggesting this pretty far in advance, as I know suggestions can be slow for approval, and I wanted to give a fair bit of time

I've brought this idea up in the past and the reception from other admins was lukewarm. I don't remember exactly what we discussed, but I personally love it.

Chretin, hopv8, famouS, old MLcastle, wildwest, complex, that really bad one with the underground cells i forgot its name, BETA XMF!!!!, etc. Just a fun little event to try out some stuff we havent in forever. Maybe we like them and want them back, maybe we don't and have some fun on some maps for a little bit.

We have the ability to add/remove maps at a much easier rate than we ever had before. I don't see any harm but would like to hear what others have to say.

I like the idea but I don't see why it has to be done in November (besides the alliteration?). I think it would make much more sense to do an event like this during the summer when a lot of people are completely off from school.

If this is just temporarily adding old maps into rotation then I am not a fan, I dont like the old maps and I dont think they play well. I also fail to see a single instance where the old versions of a map are better than the new, the playerbase has also repeatedly voted against having two of the same map.
If you're selling it on nostalgia, then a month seems way too long. The novelty of chretien and complex will run thin very quick.
This is a fun idea, but probably just isnt for me I guess x)

A week wouldn't be a massive deal imo. Just get out the nostalgia bait in waves. If we don't enjoy the maps then the comfort of being able to jsut drop them after a week would be valuable.

Just one week, the name is based on the month, but I am only suggesting a 1 week maximum run time (please fully read my messages). Purely based on Nostalgia, not to prove how these maps are better by any regards, just a nice nod to our past. If you still think that's too long, you are playing the server too often. If it does need to be shorter than a week for y'all a weekend could serve similarly.

I chose the week containing the 4th Thursday in November since not all people's schedules rely on school. I picked a date where the server's target audience (US players) will have school & work off, if a more universal timeframe works better, then use that. I thought about Christmas, but felt that would take people away from the event, since many travel for the full Christmas week. I picked the name since it was alliteration, and conveniently fit the time frame, but clarified in the post.

Maybe something like a week or two instead of a month would work better.

I posted this the exact same time Ian posted his above message so I didn’t see the message in time.

From what I'm gathering, we're essentially just adding worse maps in for a week just for the hell of it
Sure I'm as newgen as it gets but like that doesn't seem very fun?

My intention is to bring in older maps to potentially bring back older players to interact alongside newer players, this also functions as a way to look back at how far the game mode has come, while these maps aren't the best to our standards today, but had endured from years before, they used to be the standard.
If it is so much of a worry; which it seems to be, just a day could prove the same purpose, but I chose a week as a maximum since it allows times for our old regulars (those of whom aren't regulars for various reasons) a chance to work around the busy schedules or lives that may have made it so difficult for them to stay active in the first place.
This Post was specifically inspired by the suggestion to remove bootcamp. Is bootcamp deserving of being removed? In my opinion yes. Is it a terrible unplayable map? No, it can be fun every once in a while (a long while). That is why many maps have been removed, which is completely fair, but they arent unplayable maps with no effort put forth into them, they are still mostly functional, and still remain as inspirations for newer maps. The point of this event is to pick the best of those maps regardless, and if a map is complete shit in all regards, I see no reason to add it to the limited roster.

I’m going to stop spamming this thread, one final clarification: the poll is on whether or not we should do it, I believe it’s a good idea that needs some workshopping I don’t want the length of the event or timing to impact your decision, I have an outline for reference to help understand how this event could work, I’d prefer to poll questions like length, maps and timing in a separate poll, as this thread was made with the intention of determining solely if we want an event like this to happen. I’m sorry for introducing length to the discussion.

I feel like the occasional full admin sending people back to an old map for a couple rounds (when not fumbled) is enough, there are reasons many of these maps aren't on rotation anymore and the novelty of "oh look it's x map but it's an old version" wears off pretty quickly.

Yeah, just don't think I'd want this really.

I want to discuss this with the team so I am gonna close this thread on the 5th of June.

Please give any thoughts/feedback including stuff like what the event would be, length, a map you'd like to see, what maps to avoid, timing etc. General stuff.

First time doing an event like this and I wanna materialise something concrete, so type away.

Always thought of this as an idea for April 1st. A month might be over kill, but idk a week maybe sounds pretty chill.
