(If relevant) Who gave you permission to apply?

I'm an adult so I can probably apply on my own from what I read on the forum post

Server you are applying for

Panda-Community.com US | Jailbreak

General online times & time zone

Australian Eastern Daylight Time GMT+11
Evenings and Nights for Americans most likely
(I am a former American resident lol)

Do you have a working microphone?
(This is required for Jailbreak admins)

Yes (I rarely use it in JB servers unless I really need to, that would obv change if given admin, willing to prove I have a mic if asked by thread member)

Previous experience as Admin or Moderator

I was a moderator/clan member for a now defunct JB host named Degree Gaming for about 2 years

What would you say makes you a suitable candidate?

One of the only servers I ever play in TF2, JB is my all-time favorite game mode been playing it for around 7 years now. I also live in Australia which has the benefit of being able to be on at a time where most Americans are probably asleep. I know the rules very well, and I am willing to follow them and call it out no matter if I look lame or get 🤓'd for doing it. Even though I have not interacted personally with most of the members/admins, I am pretty familiar with their names and who they are, and last of all I do have experience with DG.

I feel like a lot of people won't be too familiar with me, but I wanted to give this a try because I am passionate about JB and this is the only JB server I truly care about these days. Thanks for caring to read, even if I don't make it! I am in the discord server, my tag is: Grambam36#9969

So a lot of the admins (including me) haven’t really played with you that much.
But an Aussie admin would be awesome.
So I think the best way to go about it is to make reports on the forums and warn people in chat about rules or whatever.
Not only does it increase the quality of matches but shows us that you’re willing to go the extra mile and you’re serious about being an admin. (Make sure to warn people and include those in your reports)

I can’t really give a vote just yet but I hope in a few weeks I can come back to this thing with more positive things to say.

What Banana said basically applies to me too. I don't recall seeing you in game, so I'll just say make some reports and remind people of rules, albeit not in a way that makes you come off as a strict no-fun player who's breathing under people's necks (basically, don't go after people for every little thing they do). Balance out being able to remind people of the rules and having fun.

I will stay Neutral for now, but that will be subject to change in the coming weeks.

Great! Will do. I just joined the forums, so I'll be on the look-out, thanks very much

I've had some interactions with Grambam recently so i'll go ahead and weigh in.

Chatlogs look great, don't see much toxicity and you try to warn when you can. Love to see it. You've made a few reports and have provided sufficient evidence for them respectively so that part is also covered.

Your time zone is also very appealing, you cover a time that seems to be a blind spot for most of the team currently, so your contribution would be immensely appreciated. I've also interacted with you on discord and you strike me as a pretty good person. I think you have what it takes to become a part of the team.

However your application is very short and is apparently missing a ladder. Could you provide one? It doesn't have to be a copy and paste from prior applicants, just want to pick your brain on how you personally would see to punishing.

Would also like to see a few answers to the following questions.

What sort of punishment would you issue towards an accidental freekill compared to an intentional one?

How would you warn users?

What do you think is the most important quality in an admin?

Take your time and feel free to provide your ladder and answers on your own time.

For now, I'll hold on to my vote until you provide a response.

Good luck!

Hello Grambam36, so I've recently seen you a couple times in some of my sessions now. I've looked through your chatlogs and you've been giving out warnings/reminders and there's no toxicity so that's great. You're timezone is one that could use coverage so that's also a plus.

However, I will need to play with you more to make a final decision, so I will hold off on my vote for now.

Hey there! Sorry for the late response, and I apologize for the short application, I saw shorter ones accepted but I should've realized I need a bit more. Anyway, let me fix that!

What sort of punishment would you issue towards an accidental freekill compared to an intentional one?

When there's a genuine mistake, I don't want to ban people, at least immediately, I want them to learn. I'd rather slay them and tell them what they did wrong than guard ban them, I think being too strict where one mess up could ban you is what can drive people away from playing BLU at all, which is honestly not good. There can be a severe lack of BLU sometimes, and its because people are either too lazy or too scared (50% just have no mic tho lol). If they refuse to listen and keep making mistakes, I would guard ban, but not that long.

However, when its intentional, there's zero excuse, I don't tolerate intentional freekill. Freekilling in general, when on purpose, ruins a lot of what makes JB special. The obedience of BLUs or obedience/disobience of the BLUs is extremely key to the game. It also is just a rude thing to do, being killed in JB is not fun especially when it was targeted toward you for nothing you did wrong. Not to mention, the wait times to respawn takes up to 8 mins or so, which really tests people's patience. So I am wayyy more strict on intentional freekill, and would absolutely seek punishment for those who do it.

How would you warn users?

Verbally, or through a message. I don't want to sound scary, or rude, I want to sound genuine so I don't come off power hungry or an ass. Banning is the final resort I'd want to come to, I really want to let people know they gotta stop or do something before they get in trouble. If they don't listen, that is on them, I want to give them a chance and time.

What do you think is the most important quality in an admin?

To make people feel welcome and to protect the community. You don't want people to be nervous around your presence, you don't people to look at you as an asshole, even if that's inevitable sometimes. You want to make the community and servers fun and safe so people keep coming back. When I was apart of Degree Gaming, it shut down partly due to a very decreasing number of players coming back. It used to be very popular, full servers everyday, but then it just declined heavily. The members of DG were very dedicated and close, but also there wasn't many of us. I think its very important to make people have a reason to keep coming back, and keep the servers nice and clean, at least as much as JB can be with how chaotic it is haha.

Punishment types:

Cheating:
Permaban, no exceptions.

Advertising:
Perma gag, also no exceptions.

Jailbreak ban times personally:
120 minutes
360 minutes
720 minutes
1440 minutes (1 day)
Perm (If they need a ban past a day than they really fucked up and should just be banned outright until they make a case for themselves lol.)

MFK:
720 or a day if it was for sure on accident or by some other not intentional means.
Perma if it looks intentional, they can make a case for themselves on the forums if accidental, if so it can be changed to 1440, just a day.

No mic:
Team ban on BLU until they can prove they have a working mic through any means.

Hi Grambam, thank you for replying in such a short fashion. I really like your answers here but i'm going to make a few corrections to hopefully give you more of a sense on how panda approaches punishing. I asked you to provide your own way of punishing and moderating so none of these corrections are going to be used against you.

When there's a genuine mistake, I don't want to ban people, at least immediately, I want them to learn. I'd rather slay them and tell them what they did wrong than guard ban them, I think being too strict where one mess up could ban you is what can drive people away from playing BLU at all, which is honestly not good
Exactly the answer I was looking for. We usually hand out a slay when it is accidental and only guardban if the person continues to make careless mistakes.

However, when its intentional, there's zero excuse, I don't tolerate intentional freekill. Freekilling in general, when on purpose, ruins a lot of what makes JB special. The obedience of BLUs or obedience/disobience of the BLUs is extremely key to the game. In my experience, supplying a warning through admin chat or /csay (Not sure what you had at DG) rather than verbal is the best route to go here, otherwise this answer is great!

I think its very important to make people have a reason to keep coming back, and keep the servers nice and clean, at least as much as JB can be with how chaotic it is haha.
Terrific answer. Our admins teams role is not only to hand out punishments, but also be representatives of our community. Being a fun admin will generally make the server more enjoyable and makes the overall playerbase enjoy the presence of admins rather than a annoyance. Just make sure to take your duties seriously and lay the hammer down when you have to! We will also serve to be role models too, our actions set the standards of what is okay and not okay in our community.

Now, Lets get to your ladder.

Jailbreak ban times personally:
120 minutes
360 minutes
720 minutes
1440 minutes (1 day)
Perm (If they need a ban past a day than they really fucked up and should just be banned outright until they make a case for themselves lol.)

Good, but we usually don't go too high in terms of length when it comes to guardbans since its time spent on server. Here's is the standard ladder that we usually follow.
First - 2 hours 120
Second - 4 hours 240
Third - 8 hours 480
Fourth - Perm 0

If they rack up past 8 hours, its pretty much a a perm at that point because racking up a day of playtime would take an insanely long time. At that point past the 480 we perm and usually only unban in the scenario which the player appeals.

MFK:
720 or a day if it was for sure on accident or by some other not intentional means.
Perma if it looks intentional, they can make a case for themselves on the forums if accidental, if so it can be changed to 1440, just a day.
For accidental MFKs, we default to 480 and as you correctly assume, we issue perm teambans if it's intentional.

Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the answers you provided. If you maintain your good behavior and keep up the reports I think you'd be a valuable addition to the team.

+1

After reviewing your chatlogs once more and in response to your recent answers, I'm going to agree and Cowboy and say I think you'd do fine as admin.

So, take a +1 from me.

I've been having quick glances at your progress here on forums and hlstats and seems everything is in order / improving apart from this quick glance for today:

Part of rule 2g on ghosting, but highlighting to the ghosting section under #17 & US – Jailbreak as an example of ghosting:

This Player's health is ... / They are really low health.

It's easily done given the frustration of just missing the kill on a blue / red. Worth pointing out so you realise it classes as ghosting.

There is something that I've wanted to ask. Is it possible to give a timeline of your degree gaming in years (example 2019-2021) along with when you started at panda community? I see you received a communication block back in 2020 and I was wondering if you took a break anytime between that? Perhaps when you moved to Australia? Reason I'm asking is I'm trying to gauge where most of your playtime is, either in 2020, 2021 or 2022. It might sort of explain why the staff team don't seem to recognise you but I'm also curious.

My apologies about the ghost, I remember that, it was late night and we were playing with a warden that was kind of rude and I visibly hit them a couple times in front of all the REDs so I treated it more like a given than a ghost, which is no excuse, so I apologize.

Also of course! I started playing Degree Gaming in 2015-2018, all the way until it shut down. I found out about Panda around 2019 and I did have a break in 2020 but that was indeed due to life I was graduating high school, I was moving out, lots of stuff was happening and I had less time to play games. I'd say most of my playtime is def around 2021 or 2022.

You have room for improvement, I have seen you pretty often, I cant recall a time where you were problematic in any way (when I saw you in-game), at times you are one of inaction though. I think that will change with experience, the only problem is we have a lot of trials and admins right now. I don't mind giving you a +1, the trial phase is to ensure you iron out the kinks, and I think you will do just fine at achieving that.
I will give you a +1, but if we truly are at a limit for admins like I suspect (which the open positions did not note) I do think we should wait until someone gives up their slot, or promotions/demotions occur.
ALSO, you have been pretty consistently active for a long time, which is a plus.

Hey Grambam36, I see you pretty often in game, and while I think you'd make more of an impact with the use of a microphone, I still believe you'd be a great candidate for assisting on Jailbreak as a staff member.

I don't have very much to add, I can see your active and know what you're doing, and there isn't really anything holding me back from giving you support.

You get a +1! Good luck! Hope to see you as a staff member very soon. :)

You totally get our punishment philosophy and the reports you’ve made haven’t been too bad either.
I think we can squeeze one more admin into the team.

No matter what happens I do want to say I rly appreciate all the kind thoughts given here, even if I don't get the position I'll play Panda JB and support the community around it, has been great meeting you all in greater context

I can only repeat of the stuff that has been mentioned here already. But even so I still want to say that you have presented yourself incredibly well with all the questions asked. Including that you're in an Australian time zone makes it even so much better to let you have a go as an admin. Absolutely +1

With semicolon backslash signed for inactivity, it's time to put this application under review.

Any questions or inactivity during under review please let me know via steam / discord / forum PM. Good luck ::):
