When a warden says "this is gonna be a practice round/question/etc.", they're implying they won't kill anyone for failing. The kills were definitely unjust as he does not give any sort of indication that the practice round had ended before giving a time limit/KOS orders. Whether or not this was an intentional trick order or incompetence I have no idea.
