I have never liked this map.

Visually it is unimpressive, but who cares, how does it play?
Awfully. The worst example of a "hallway map". This map is constantly nominated just for the server to be quickly abandoned. The minigames are a mixed bag, but you'll rarely get to play any of them due to how claustrophobic the map is .
More often than not, it just devolves into boring failround after failround. If that doesn't occur and the blus got a handle on things, it is incredibly unfun to rebel on. Due to the lack of wiggle room, rebelling is pretty much hoping no one guards the breakable in cells or relying on uber. In the month of May (so far), the map has been played a total of seven times, because I believe the playerbase as a whole is in agreement. For whatever reason Xmf has a cult following, and quite often when it is selected as the map, the player drop is slashed before the next map as those who nominate it just leave anyways.

Just an all around bad map I very much want out of rotation.

On a more serious note, You’re imagining things if you think this is the worst example of a a”hallway map” considering we have a map like famous in rotation. The fuck do you want the players to navigate? Ancient mythological flying machines? Xmf is RARELY played and most of the time I’m the one who nominates it and head out 20/30 minutes into the map because it’s approaching 1 AM and I have class the following day and don’t want to miss it.
I’m sure if I were to nominate it at 7:30 PM there would be a reasonable player count through the map and beyond. And I swear the only times I’ve played on the map the failrounds are actually really enjoyable.
Not everyone finds joy in forcing the prison on a lockdown because a warden can’t give LR. A lot of people find joy in the way the round progresses into ending in a failround or despite all of the trials, an LR is given. Just becuase this map is a little tough to do that in in a few instances doesn’t mean it’s poorly designed and unfun. You just have a different definition of how to play the game.

I am of the belief that you don’t like the map for whatever reasons you have and therefor the nuisances that people’s enjoyment AND what problems it may have is completely lost if it slightly fits your mold of how you perceive the map and it defaults to being an enemy of the game in your eyes.

Also isn’t there an update being worked on rn? Would like to see that instead of it getting removed for problems it may solve

I like XMF. I still remember that legal 13 kills MFK when they were all stuck in AWP Dodge, and I was Heavy. (its recorded somewhere). Do I think the map is visually very basic compared to the other maps? yes. But so is Super Mario and its played very regularly. Do I think it's a hallway map that doesn't add anything unique to the JB Formula, yes. But maps like... Volcano, Famous, Aztec, are also all hallway maps. The faults it has are the same as the other laundry list of maps we have in rotation. We can't fault the map for it. The Design of the map is very simplistic, A main antechamber with three branching paths that leads to DEAD ENDS. With small vents in them to allow reds to escape. There's no consistent way for blues to escape the dead ends from reds. The Minigames are very standard, which is fair. it's hard to make minigames unique for every map. It's small, with no secrets. Very little cover in the hallways to dodge sniper sightlines. there's nothing unique to it that makes it stand out from the rest.

I'm going to play devil's advocate. I think XMF should be removed but I don't think it should be removed at this MOMENT. This suggestion could be saved for maps much more deserving of removal. Like for example. Servilive, Albany, Famous, Casuarina, Minecraft Nightfall, Underjail, and Crossroads.

Servilive is a very small, extremely easy to rebel on, cluttered and poorly designed map with an odd selection of minigame choices.
Albany is a large, aged, and dated map in rotation that I only see a select few minigames be played on.
Famous is an unfair, boring and unnecessarily MASSIVE map. Blu sided minigames can be camped, its layout is very basic and absolutely huge with no deviations or alternative routes in the main areas to escape from, once you're in a hallway its either run or die.
Casuarina is dated, half the maps on it are broken, it's too wide and boring to warrant going outside the main areas. The games it has are way too small. The car is a buggy mess and with how its enclosed in a fenced in track it's difficult to catch up to and kill rebellers who just get in and speed off in it and delay the round. Jeopardy, Four Corners, Russian Roulette, Shock Drop and Roll, Hide and Go Boom, Jump Rope are all broken either from the start or after you start them making them unplayable. the other minigames can be cheesed like 9 Square (if wardens dumb), Dodgeball. Death run is too small to warrant playing. I think you can also fall into Fall game (ha-ha) which I find dumb.
Minecraft Nightfall is very BORING, I've only seen Death Run, Obstacle Course, Crush Game, Spleef Arena, and Sweeper played on it mostly. It's hard to make that map engaging. It's outer area also just seem to have no reason to exist at all other than to break a few special blocks for ammo which I've hardly seen given to reds, and its quicker to just use the three armory secrets to get into armory for ammo anyway. Also, the bars can be shot through from both sides so theirs that too.
I'm not even going to get into UnderJail or Crossroads.

The point is more maps deserving of removal are right here with easier cases to make for its deletion from the rotation. I want less quantity and more quality maps that can be played on. We have like what, 36 maps in rotation. The bad maps we never play on anyway and were forced to play them cause one neanderthal decides to nominate all those bad maps at the start of the match, which means there's no other option but to vote for one, server dies, and we restart to cycle all over again. We need to take a more liberal approach to map removal. I don't want to join the server and be stuck on Nightfall or Casuarina and have to beg to RTV, it's not fun. It's not Jailbreak. We just BARELY got Bootcamp removed, which is a great step in the right direction, and we got to keep the momentum up to see worthwhile and lasting change.

I'm going to vote no. Not because the map should stay in rotation but because I'd rather wait and see other maps go so, we can take a more investigative look into XMF and its flaws. Which we can't do at the moment. So, we can have a more informed removal of it.

Hi,

I've been in the planning phases for an XMF overhaul for a while now and while I am pre-occupied with a project I am more passionate about I am willing to divert some energy to an XMF overhaul/update (assuming the map is not removed, I'm not going to expel the energy now if the map is going to disappear in a week.).

Feel free to send suggestions my way, and don't take this as a threat that I'm holding the update hostage if you decide to remove it, it'll probably happen at some point no matter the map's status on the rotation.

In its current state, xmf has zero reason to be played over another map. Nothing it does is particularly special and it doesnt have many redeeming qualities to warrant keeping.
For the argument of removing other maps before this, I can provide a better solution: why not remove all of them?
Seriously nobody would actually care whether servilive, xmf, and famous were here or not (one might get some pushback on the older maps due to nostalgia but that is an invalid argument to warrant keeping something, see cheriten). I would argue keeping the maps that nobody will play anyway only adds to a random server death at 11:00pm due to a map nobody genuinely wishes to play, and extra buttons when someone wishes to nominate a map.

XMF is the best map in jailbreak. No, it’s the best map in TF2. It's so good that it makes every other map horrible in comparison. I think most people would agree that jailbreak peaked when XMF was added. How dare you even entertain the idea that this map is anything but perfect? I don't get how people play jailbreak when XMF is not the current map. Like, what do you even do? Not play XMF? I'd rather kill myself. Honestly, l'd be surprised if humans ever discover an experience more euphoric than playing XMF within the next century. I've had countless wet dreams about XMF. The only time I ever cry is when XMF’s 45 minutes are up. I cry all day until its cooldown is over and I can finally nominate it again, which of course will lead to an XMF SWEEP because the good citizens of jailbreak know what’s best for them. I hope to one day get married in a round of XMF. No, I want to marry XMF. I need XMF to bear my children. I will teach my children and my children’s children to always nominate XMF and I will defend it until I’m 6 feet under. It is all that makes life worth living, I measure happiness in units of seconds spent on XMF. XMF is proof there is a god. He spoke to the prophet Semicolon Backslash and bestowed the sacred blueprints of His final creation: a jailbreak map that would save humanity. Please do not spread this blasphemy again. Kevin will never remove XMF, it is the only thing keeping jailbreak alive.

Honestly, XMF, for as basic-looking as it is, has this weird charm I can't describe that I can't really find on a lot of other maps, like Bootcamp or Jailfort.

I don't like this map, the map is very unfair against the blu team with a lot of dead ends and cramped hallways making dying very easy.

It's almost impossible to play speedrun properly because unless there is a pyro or heavy defending the button a red will start it early and the blu who was trying to defend it dies to being rushed. Even if it is properly started most reds are unable to finish the minigame (more so than speedrun usually does). Same goes for deathrun with the red door being placed in such a way where it's hard for blus to keep reds out of the blu side.

Overall the map has more downsides than upsides for me, so I am voting yes to remove it
