I normally would be defending this map with every fiber of my being. But for once I think this map really has to be removed until the bugs get fixed. You can't do any LRs except for freedays and custom lrs. Captain Toad breaks. There is likely more bugs right now but I don't know them.
 
I'm not really a big fan of galaxy, but you could've put at least a little bit more effort into the suggestion and your reasons if you want it to actually pass 🫤
 
Considering I was making this exact post before it went live, I'll add to it.

While the map is clearly popular (as seen by how often it gets voted), it has some serious, not to mention consistent issues that make it disruptive to Panda.

1. It crashes the server more than any other map in rotation.
2. Its minigames frequently break or don't work as intended, leading to confusion from REDs, delays, or softlocks whenever an admin isn't online.

While it is evident that the map is buggy and will crash on a coinflip, the map constantly gets voted for because of the jump mechanic and stupidly easy access to rebel, which creates a situation where, despite being "community favorite", jb_galaxy actively harms the server’s playability.

My suggestion is to remove jb_galaxy from rotation until a fixed version is provided from hehe released with fully working minigames and no crash issues. We can always re-add it later, but right now it does more harm than good in our map pool. Not to mention, hehe has direct contact with nearly everyone on the server so it wouldn't be hard to get the v3 pushed.

the map literally crashed earlier today pls remove it until its fixed bro :sadge:
 
Galaxy has barely any minigames on it and poor map layout. Also really easy to rebel on
 
The map currently has a regular issue where it crashes due to edicts(an issue that likely can be solved by templating the boss fight “projectiles”), so until it is fixed it needs to be removed

Hilariously, the issue of crashing is so well known that sometimes the server votes for it literally to force a reset on the server. In my experience this happened when there was immense lag (presumably due to other reasons), and resetting the server fixed the lag.

Gameplay wise the map is painful as blue because it is simply impossible to account for two rebelling reds on complete opposite sites of the map. While removing the cell pipe was a good idea, it introduced a new issue with the “camping the pipe secret as red” issue, as it is so easily accessible. The launch stars are also cery easy to abuse as any class but Espicially as red, you can literally fly from sand obby to ice obby in about 10 seconds, while having barely any pushback from blus.

All of this is not to mention the various bugs that manifest themselves during gameplay: flying directly into an invisible wall, longjump consistently being broken on certain clients, z-fighting on textures, an invisible object in moving platform that kills you, sweeper killing you when it stops in some cases, and quite a bit more. Its surprising that this map is actually still here considering how many bugs and issues it has with crashing.
 
We've temporarily removed the map from the map pool until a fix is ready and tested.

We was going to wait until August, as we have waited for a fix since June, but this thread has accelerated the process.
It was going to happen regardless if the community wanted it or not. We couldn't have map in the pool that crashes the server, it effects player retention and that is something we are not going to trade off when it comes to keeping a 'popular' map.

I'm going to keep the thread up though to still vote on. The vote should be to remove it from the map pool regardless if there is a fix. If successful, the map removal suggestion would keep the map off the pool for 3 months until a new map suggestion to add it back in 6 months is created. So please vote in the mind that this is to actually remove the map regardless of a fix being made.
 
Honestly I do commend hehe troll for listening to everybody's criticisms and doing her best to address them and make this map playable. I'm more in favor now of keeping this map now if the crashes can be fixed.

I literally cannot play Galaxy because I live in Australia. Other maps are fine (Casuarina can sometimes lag when it's a full server), but I've only ever played Galaxy once since it's been on the server and that was when it was initially added. Sweeperer is fine as well, so there's just something with having a high ping that makes the map borderline unplayable

what minigames, how do they not function correctly?

im waiting for a script from Berke that reduces the ease of using the star launchers in v3.
my idea is to have the star launchers require an input that must be held for 1 second whilst being inside the trigger before it actually launches you

see, that's the problem, i cant really introduce new minigames with the amount of ideas i have because the game's engine is very limiting with the amount of objects it can handle.
in other words, i just have too much i want to do with too little space

i could try to work with templates, however the projectiles are all one object parented to a func_tracktrain (that is to remove players blocking the things when ubered for example)

would you like to see more obstacles added to prevent that from happening? or does the beforementioned script work too?

All of this is not to mention the various bugs that manifest themselves during gameplay:

these are the walls in between planets to prevent snipers from shooting accross the entire map. apparently with high ping the triggers to "turn off" the walls temporarily aren't wide enough. i could fix this by simply either expanding the triggers.
also, another idea that came to me as im typing this, i could have the walls just be visible things with a hole in the middle, but that wouldn't look too great aesthetically

??? how? it shouldn't break to my knowledge? ... maybe because i altered the script a bit to include some half-bugged functionalities? idk, its weird that it doesn't work. maybe they don't have +RELOAD binded, or bound to a different key?

im really doing my best with trying to make the map as enjoyable as possible!!
as i said before, im being limited HARD by the engine, i just have too much i want to do with too little space.

tl;dr:
just my general thoughts on some comments found above.

I do appreciate the quality and effort that went into making the map, it's just a shame that I can't play it on panda due to ping reasons

I'm hoping other people realise to what I said about were this suggestion is now going, but there will be votes just to remove it outright and that's understandable.
 
Regardless of the crashing issue, I think galaxy should still be removed. Fundamentally, galaxy’s layout doesn’t work well for Jailbreak. The actual playable space is extremely limited and insanely red favored (even after the cell pipe got nuked). Separating the map up into different islands sounds fun on paper, but it usually just ends in rebellers running around in circles and island-hopping for most of the round while blues try to catch them while simultaneously trying to deal with the remaining reds. Like seaweed said before, the star launchers and invisible walls can also be a bit finicky and cause you to get fall off the map at no fault of your own. Galaxy also only has 8 minigames currently, a few of which don’t even work properly (dodge course, captain toad). With the lack of minigames and ease of rebelling it almost feels like the only thing to do on red is rebel, and playing blue is often even more of a slog than playing blue usually is.

Another issue I have with galaxy, which I feel a lot of people disagree with, is the map’s appearance. Galaxy looks really messy and borderline ugly in my opinion. A lot of the map geometry is way blockier than it should be and the texture work is pretty sloppy, there’s a lot of z-fighting and most of the textures look like they’ve just been slapped on. A lot of the minigame structures don’t fit into the environment and the massive amount of unnecessary vision-blocking text is a bit of an eyesore.

I respect hehe for putting in so much effort developing galaxy and trying to make it work with jailbreak, but I think it would’ve been better if galaxy never made it out of the planning stage and was dropped for a better map idea.
