- Your general online times and your timezone
GMT London – my online times are a little sporadic. At the moment I work 5am-12 mid day, but sometimes my sleeping pattern shifts and I end up awake at silly times (3am…)
- Which of our servers do you usually play on and wish to apply for? Would you visit a broader range of servers in case of a report?
I’m a VSH kind of guy, but I have experience dealing with a variety of server types. The only thing I’m not keen to touch, and by that I mean with a 20 foot pole, is Jailbreak.
- Do you have a microphone? (This is a minimum requirement for Jailbreak admins)
Yes, and I’m quite fond of using it.
- Your previous experience as Admin or Moderator
Here comes a bit of a spiel:
Started administrating large game communities/servers at 12 years old. First one being:
Goobers OT (9 whole years ago) – a private server for an MMO with a player population between 160-250 online at any given time.
RealOTs (some 5-6 years ago) – a private server for the same MMO, but with between 600-1000 online at any given time.
GreenZebraHosting (some 3-4 years ago) – a collection of private servers for the same MMO, this time with between 800-1600 players online at any given time.
Tibia – a large scale MMO with around 65,000 players online at any given time. I was a moderator with banishment privileges (but with no tool character/Game Master character).
BlackOut Gaming – Lead administrator for the TF2 community, was in charge of producing rules, admin guidelines, and had a hand in a number of other tasks |21 months.
Between these I’ve been an administrator on various other communities. It’s at well over 50 communities by this point, but I figure I should only really post the prestigious and notable ones.
- Do you have experience with administrating with SourceMod?
Yes, as aforementioned I was an administrator for a TF2 game community for almost two years.
- Why should we choose you to be part of our team?
I have almost a decade of experience, and have literally written guides on administration. BlackOut Gaming and TF2 centre currently use versions of my rules. I also have experience in development & game design, including qualifications to attribute to that.
- Finally, please briefly explain how you would do your job, e.g. a general overview of your policies and punishments.
What can I say? I've literally written guides on this. My judgement comes from how a player's behaviour is effecting the other players; a 'Don't be a dick about bans' policy tends to help. Excluding players is a pretty significant thing to do so, hypothetical situation; two players are calling each other names as a joke - it's quite clear it's a joke - I'm not going to intervene unless it has an impact on another player. If they start throwing around discriminatory terms that might upset other people, I'll take action, because then their actions have caused a negative impact on another player.
To quote one of my guides:
With regards once more to our offensive language hypothetical, the policy I outlined in my guide works hierarchically (moving down the tree with each escalation/repeat offence):
Kick with appropriate warning
Ban for 1 day
Ban for 1 week, lock all communications permanently
Obviously I expect Panda Gaming to have their own policies and guidelines. This is merely an example of how I'm acclimated to operating.
- To conclude...
Thank you for taking the time to read this application. While my game time is indeed low at present, I tend to remain loyal to one server group, playing specifically on those servers. I've tried to keep this short and sweet, but it looks like I came up a little short...
- Edit:
1) My playtime is low because of how I allocate myself to TF2 servers. I dislike the quality some servers hold themselves to, often banning players sporadically or without good reason. I therefore like to find a community to settle into for the long haul; this is where I've had my eyes set on.
Having checked the Sourcebans logs, including ban times and reasons, I'm confident that this community has the type of approach I'm looking for when it comes to the player base.
2) I submitted this application without much playtime because I'd been in discussions with the owner - Kevin.
Again, having spoken with him I feel confident that people here are taking strides to provide the best quality servers.

To quote one of my guides:
That said, clan members should be able to think and adapt depending on the situation, because not all situations will be identical. Rigidly enforcing these rules would result in deprecating our community significantly, and we want to make servers where people can have fun playing the game. Therefore enforcing these rules too strictly can result in nobody enjoying the servers, resulting in the same if not more damaging effect as the rule breakers.

Kick with appropriate warning
