Can I remove the "Live Updater"? (1 Viewer)

It's the pile of junk plugin that refreshes the page every 60 seconds to poll your notifications and then only correctly displays them half of the damn time.
Why do you need a notification refresher when you are NOT using the page? Is it so hard to hit F5 once when you are ready to receive possible new content notifications?
