Declined New rule about erotism/sexualising in chat (1 Viewer)

Hello there friendly pandas.

I was playing on our favourite christian 2fort server when half of the regulars on the server started going into semi-erotic roleplay (mostly for jokes, but still). Now, personally, I would like my video gaming sessions to be without dialogue straight out of a garbage porn in the chat. I therefore went on the rules, cus I figured that if we do not allow sexual sprays or sexual content on profile avatars, surely there is such a rule against it in the chat, but alas, I found none. One could argue that no sexual content in chat goes within this rule, 1c;

"Publicly visible content within sprays or avatars that is deemed sexual, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate, is forbidden."

But that's when I heard the regulars saying that an admin didn't seem to mind when some of them did it a few days ago, so I doubt it.

So to the point, and all joking aside; I think something preventing people from doing erotic roleplay in chat should be explicitly stated in the rules. Again, personally I do not think that socialising of this nature belongs in TF2, especially panda servers where a lot of people are underage, and who has such a focus on a laid back gaming experience that even politics and excessive raging is not welcome.

I was also in the server when this happened, a lot of impressionable children play on the servers and tf2 in general. I assumed this was already a rule.

I find it unlikely an admin approved of this? But I can stand corrected.

Hi, I was playing earlier today and someone was constantly talking (in chat) about sexual related topics. I reported him, and after a while added 1 of the admins as a friend to ask about what can be done. Both of us went through the rules again and we can't find anything that says it's not...

I opened a discussion regarding something similar to this not too long ago. The result was that we weren't going to add it to the rules. However if the things said are overly vulgar/inappropriate it's not allowed. This would include vulgar slang or detailed descriptions of certain sexual acts for example. Sex itself as a topic shouldn't be banned.

If you encounter something you believe is too vulgar and inappropriate to be said on the server feel free to create a report here.

Is this sufficient for your suggestion?

I feel that if we do not allow joking about controversial political figures, squeakers in voice chat, "foreign" languages and so forth, things that are of rather minor inconvenience; a bother to the philosophy of just having fun playing video games, then the degeneracy that is erotic roleplay in chat should not be allowed either.

I would say that sex related topics aren't specifically 'hurrdurr I come all over you with my white substance/I would love to touch dicks/I am a 15 year old who do not interact with people of my sexual preference IRL and I let it out in a video game on the first chance I get", and is a different thing, yet even just talking about sexualities and kinks/whatever can be controversial in the same way as the political discussions.

Panda isn't a roleplaying server or community in this sense. This is a video game not real life, if you want to go roleplay about sex go into private messages not server wide chat. Just make it that sex related content is not to be talked about on public chats.

But in seriousness, the "can I have hug/kiss" is just mild...ly weird, like the /hug /kiss system you guys have. Personally, I don't even feel that talking about your penis is appropriate on a team fortress server, and I find those examples is more similar to the ones you wouldn't allow. I can see discussing sprays, artworks, whatever, but they aren't supposed to be there in the first place.

Anyways, that's not really the focus here. Perhaps in the future : ). What I, and probably a bunch of other people would really like is just a rule that prevents people from ERPing or displaying how horny they are infront of everyone, like the examples that you wouldn't allow. Such forms of OwO PWEASE FUCK ME shit has no place on the servers.

the "just mute them" doctrine just invalidates many of the comm-rules already set in place (eg: why forbid offensive language when you can just mute?) + one could argue that the damage has already been done when you have to resort to muting people yourself.

Vecomti I don't mean to hijack your thread but;

There seems to be a general consensus in this thread that erotic roleplaying/cybersex - whatever you want to call it - should not be allowed, while in the former thead the idea of putting a rule against sex related topics lost the vote by over 80%. I think a good way to go forward with this is to again start a poll, this time time explicitly stating that the suggested rule is against ERP and not discussions about sex in general which I personally think is okay, as long as it's done with civility.

Now the most common stance against such a rule seems to be along the "just mute them" lines, which I honestly think is an illegitimate argument (see post above). So if some of you guys who are against an anti-erp rule would like to explain why you think the playerbase should be exposed to neckbeard-mating-sessions while playing TF2 that would be great

It's rather subjective this. I have a feeling if a rule is placed it can be taken the wrong way by players and admins alike (like the capital letters rule) if it is not clearly defined.

So what's the suggestion? Make a rule? I'd like to see some examples of this. Perhaps in a rule that currently exists or a brand new one.
After that's established, I'll make a poll on it. I know about the suggestion made in January.

Think this is good. As many have shown, tf2 servers are not a space for people to share or disclose erotic material. If you wanna talk sexy or share explicit content use private messages or discord.

I'm too shit at english to even attempt rewriting the clause myself but it really just has to include "ERP or cybersex - not allowed"

I am fairly confident that this rule will be interpreted correctly by the admins. deciding what constitutes as ERP is not really that much harder than deciding what constitutes for say 'insulting'. I mean we should be able to expect that staff apply common sense when administrating. If that's not the case then the selection process has not been picky enough but that's a different subject.

I think vecomti should get a chance to have a say before any polls are made tho, so might not want to be too quick on that.

I already enforce this kind of stuff on jailbreak and it seems like other admins do aswell. anything that can be deemed excessive eg "stick your dick in my ass" "cum daddy oh yes" falls under inappropriate/offensive language and comes off as disruptive behavior already.

If people are continuing to behave this way on 2fort or wherever else you can ask them to stop. If you feel its cutting the border too much feel free to make a report here for an admin to handle. Anyways, no replies have been given to help further this suggestion, for now I'll close it up. Feel free to make another suggestion again if you want to shed more light on this.
