Hello,

jb_aztec_final was suggested to be removed around a year ago and the suggestion was accepted. In my opinion, the map didn't deserve this fate as it has many fun minigames (that are actually skill based) like surf and temple run. Not to mention, the aesthetic is quite unique compared to other maps. I'd also argue that many maps on the rotation right now are far worse than aztec, yet they never got suggested to be removed.

To be honest I was always under the impression that mayanjungle replaced aztec cause of both their temple-esque themes but yes, aztec was fucking dope and I'm convinced it was only removed cause it wasnt hopjb 🙏

It was generally considered bad because it is entirely enclosed and is very hard to discern where you actually are in relation to everything because it has no unique landmarks you can use to center yourself on the map. Other people may have their own personal reasons for why they dislike aztec but I can assure you what I've said was a major factor.

im convinced u never played/seen aztec if u are dead serious lol

my vote is a no.

the layout is too confusing, the map is too big, almost no wardens DARE to go further than the minigames closest Cell Area in fear of getting hopelessly lost in the mess of a tomb that is Aztec.

I'm really torn about this. On the one hand, I do like the variety of minigames and the aesthetics. However, the giant fatal flaw is the confusing layout. There are many maps I've played on and know well enough to memorize all minigame locations, but this isn't one of them. Because of the layout, wardens rarely like to leave cell area, instead opting to make REDs do something close to cells like Temple Run or Sweeper, all the time.

I'll keep neutral on this.

I should mention I do believe that Mayanjungle also has the issue of a confusing layout, though not nearly to the extent of Aztec, and we like that map just fine.

the layout is too confusing, the map is too big
I think the "layout being confusing" is a bit overstated in this case especially when you have a minigame locator (as shown in video for the uninitiated)

I disagree with the map being "too big" in my opinion its quite average sized for the modern JB map as most of them are this size these days (like mayanjungle, volcano, miami)

I LOVE Aztec.

I am actually really suprised to see someone else suggested this as I have been thinking of asking for the same poll for a while now.
I get that the map has a not so great layout in terms of corridors for getting to minigames but I don't think that should be reason it should be out of the map pool.

When I first joined Panda I saw that Aztec would get nominated alot "even for a trash map". Once Hopjb, carcerm and the mario maps are on nomination cooldown. I would see it being played.
Personally I think Aztec is great for these reasons:

I play moslty on blu because I love it when reds rebel, Aztec enables reds to rebel when the warden and gaurds are being incompetent as there are multiple escapes rather then really tight corridors.
I think maps like carcerm and old quake got played because when theres good reds they would always rebel.

On the other hand when theres competent blus Aztec is still a good map because theres a really good variety of minigames such as the surf, difficult obby and the strafe race to name a few. I think this is equally as important as I find it so boring constantly playing the same minigames such as hopjb climb and the mario maps (which I think just become really stagnet if you play it to much).

I don't think that adding aztec will ruin the map pool as even when it was in rotation people did not spam nominate it versus the more popular maps which are carcerm, quake, the two mario maps and hopjb.

I think one of the main reasons people wanted to remove aztec at the time was because when the warden would die you would spend years waiting for the next round to start as people would be lost and the blus would not hunt properly.

I think this big isssue has been resolved with the addition of the recent dead warden plugin which ends the round after a few minutes. I understand this is not a fix for the map but actually makes the map more playable and as you get more round rather then wait as a spectator.

I think the map has been out of rotation for long enough and should get a chance of being in the map rotation for a little bit. I think its unfair to say remove it because its a trash map as worse maps have been re added to the map pool such as spy vs spy, which has terrible minigames and a worse map layout. If its the case like spy vs spy, Aztec would just get removed again after a while.

I think Aztec is personally better then volcano as the volcano is so much worse for getting to any minigame, people on volcano always play the same close minigames but versus aztec it takes twice as long to get to the other minigames.

I like Aztec. It is fundamentally flawed yes. But I still genuinely enjoy it quite a lot. Back when it was in rotation I remember it being one of the more played maps. I would definitely like it back in rotation.

Im quite neutral towards it, but im leaning towards not readding it.
Its pretty difficult to contain the reds when you are 2 or 3 blus.
Also half of the minigames are rarely ever played because how far away from spawn they are.

Map navigation isnt a problem imo, you have maps, and the above mentioned ability to hit the waywards to disclose the minigame location.

I wouldnt mind playing it personally, but im worried that 2 months later someone suggest to remove it again.

Negatives:
Rebel :Aztec is waay too big, has only one armoury entrance, like 3 total small ammopacks that dont respawn, and one very predictable cell secret, the empty space around the map is so much that it enables blues to laser you from a mile away with crits

Minigame Red: Aztec also has bad minigames, spread out so far apart and unclear as to where they are and where the finish and start is, some can take too long or are just dubious to play and can easily lead to a failround, some minigames blue areas can also be abused to kill wardens e.g. pootis pow/throwing balls at the warden through invisible wall or roof

Blue: Again, the minigames are so far apart from each other (or at least the good ones) so a failround can happen easily , map is a maze, have to be extra careful entering minigames because a red can also be in there
also, armory hella small, no room to escape if reds enter and overpower blue inside

Positives

huge sniper sightline, uhhhh thats about it

It's not.

I played on Aztec a dozen or so times in the time it was on the server.

I geniunely can not tell you from memory where games such as trivia actually are, and only discovered they existed on the second to last time I played on it.

Compare this to Wildwest. A map I have played on twice in my entire lifetime. But here I am, able to recite the way to karts with a general sense of directions (I have long forgotten specifics but it is behind cells way in the back and it pases Ninja Warrior on the way to the minigame).
I've literally never even played that game before, but because navigating wildwest was never a chore by itself and it uses textures and many turns, it isn't a massive nightmare.

The map is a maze, it killed player counts, and its mini games are very "babies first map" feeling. I genuinely think if I were to make a map in 2 weeks it would look like aztec.

That was Amazon Jungle. Aztec and Mayan co-existed for a long time.
Stop bringing up hop. hop is a good map because it plays well. Aztec was removed because it just doesnt play well.

Geniunely every discussion I have had about this map has NEVER resulted in a single person actually bringing up reasons to like this map other than surf.

Most of the time people start complaining about how mayanjungle is the same map but slightly worse. Which isn't even the right map!

Aztec is gen my least favorite map in terms of gameplay, design, and execution. None of it is done well and the idea of playing on this map again has genuinely given me a headache. Don't add this piece of trash please.

This maps layout is just not for a server without bhop. Takes forever to get players to a minigame.

No thanks.

Now I think Aztec is a great map, but I can see it's flaws too.
Aztec, Cargo, and a few other maps require competent blus to pilot them, more so than your Vanilla HopJb or Supermario.
Cargo with blus that do not know the map devolves into "let's do X minigame that is close to cells", and Aztec is probably the most painful example of this.
Aztec has a pretty amazing array of minigames, but getting to them has a learning curve.
Personally I think this map just needs more time in the players sphere to tap its potential.
In my opinion it was a solid map before, and ought to be a solid map again.

Just as with Cargo, blus have to be competent. In cases where they are not, rtv and try again another time.
Also no the layout is not confusing. There is a map at cells, signs literally everywhere, and a minigame locator with the signs so reading isn't even required.
As a predominantly blu player, I loved Aztec. You just have to actually use what is provided to you.
The potential is there with its massive array of minigames, it is unfortunately very reliant on the blus.

Have been in favor of Aztec, and always will be.
