Since this is not exactly a rare case a quite simple solution came to my mind, given that it's possible.

Why not have the !call command detect if an admin is on the server and not send a call if that's true? It could also return a proper reply to the user such as "An admin is present already, please ask them to deal with the situation." (Possibly with an instruction on how to use the admin chat)

There are two immediate downsites that come to my mind.
  • It reveals the presence of admins on the server. Solution: Go through the call process as usual and return the normal answer while notifying the admin in a server message.
  • It will lead to problems with admins being afk on the server. For this case I do not have a solution besides giving the admin a pop-up menu to confirm that they are not afk.
I am aware that this requires additional programming and might be hard to implement because of that, but seeing how the plugin already returns a list of players and makes it impossible to call on admins it seems possible to me.

I don't understand the solution.

The reason why the debate on the 'appeal' was sparked is because the user deemed the ban unfair, and I can sort of understand him. As far as I can tell from what he wrote, he was on the server for around 30 seconds, and even IF he had known Lighty was admin (in general), he most likely didn't spot him present, the reason simply being he was ignorant (not in a bad way) to the chat or the scoreboard. The time he spent on the server doesn't matter that much, as it is possible and perfectly normal for the player to ignore to what is going on in the chat, or simply not see Lighty in the scoreboard.

I mean, it's not up to us to judge whether the player knows an admin is present, but I think it's sort of unjust for an admin to issue a ban as long as one for spamming in chat or voice if anything. Furthermore, the player who uses the call function shows the user is enforcing the rules, and isn't unknowledgeable to what's going on in the server. I usually have a habit where I check the chat on both Hightower servers for spammers while I was away for a few hours, and every time I come home there is AT LEAST one, though I do not get any reports from the CallAdmin bot, which clearly shows the players in the server don't care about what's happening.

In my opinion, it's good for us admins to sometimes put ourselves in the players' shoes, to think how they think, to try and comprehend how we would feel if such an 'unjustified' ban was issued. How would you feel if you were given a 12 hour ban for enforcing the rules? I assume you'd be quite irritated. That's exactly why I feel this rule needs revamping.

Suggestions by Zeprus seem quite tempting, though as he said, they may look like a lot of work. If anything, I feel this rule shouldn't be percieved as something major if broken, as it is just an indication that the player imposes the rules, even IF there is an admin on the server.

Of course there are exceptions to this. If a player reports someone for a reason such as: *lenny face*, hello mr admin, or i dont know what this is for lmao, then a ban should definitely be in order.

If a player uses !call and the call plugin detects an admin is on the server, it should just pretend the call was sent like usual except it is directed at the admin on the server, like in a dialog with the answers "ok" or anything really, and if the admin doesn't respond within a certain time, they would get kicked and the the call would be sent through the calladmin bot like normal. If the admin responds, it should not show the players anything, just to not reveal that the admin is on the server.

Just my idea. Would make the admin more aware of the reported player and have the rule only apply for things like
*lenny face*, hello mr admin, or i dont know what this is for lmao,

True, a player who reports another for reasons like that are certainly a one-way ticket to a ban, without questioning its justifiability and without a need for an appeal. If an appeal is made, it is to be marked invalid as soon as enough evidence is presented.

debatable as incase the admin is afk or something then the request wont be sent and the problem doesnt get resolved, atleast thats how i see it but i've added a poll.

If they don’t answer within a certain time it will just send normally then I’m guessing

pretty pointless, idk dont like the solution for the afk check lol

I don't think calls should be disabled while an admin is on the server, the admin can just warn the player not to call in that situation - I believe that's the safest and easiest thing to do.
Personally, I've never issued a ban after the player has called admin once, even if they 100% knew I was there - I guess I just never saw it as a huge problem. Of course, I'd ban a player if he has intentionally called multiple times, but once, even if the admin's presence is obvious, in my eyes, shouldn't be too big of an issue.

Neither did I nor a lot of other admins I would assume, however some apparently do while it could be prevented so easily. That's why I suggested it.

I personally disagree with this for the sake that an admin can tell the other admins that are online that the report has been handled. Plus its easier to notice a report with a with how it already is rather than through in game chat since sometimes I don't pay attention to chat or the admin that is on is afk. Plus if multiple users are being reported, rather than saying that an admin is already on, it can get other admins to come on too and help the already present admin rather than overwhelming them with notifications.

Declining this. The poll has been closed, please have a look at the result on the poll.
