Should pyro be buffed?

It just seems to me that Pyro needs a major buff for this mode. Pyro's airblast, one of the three major things that actually give pyros any chance at survival if theyre targeted, ends up as free rage for the hale, meaning that to avoid screwing their team pyros have to either a.) Flarejump and risk dying from the fall, or b.)use the Phlog, which even then doesnt guarantee survival. I know many wont agree with me, but it just seems like Pyro needs a sizeable buff to make the class a reasonable choice. Every other class has a chance to survive an encounter with the Hale (medics can uber often, scouts have bonk when theur high speed and jumps fail, heavy can normally survive a few its depending on hale and their overheal, etc.) so why not nake it so that Pyro, too, can be a force to be reckoned with? Poor chances of survival would be reasonable if Pyro did large amounts of damage, but he doesnt even have that. Alongside the fact that he needs to be close to the hale to deal damage, all his weapons do their base damage, which is honestly negligible when every single boss has thousands of health. As i said, many of you are going to disagree, but to me it seems that Pyro needs to be buffed, even if it isnt increased damage.

As someone who uses Pyro a lot, I'd say he is fine.
His Flare Jump can be easily mastered to make sure you don't die.
The Airblast gives rage because it's annoying and would be OP if it didn't.
I often don't have problems with Pyro myself, expect when you do Airblast a wonderfully laggy hale and it doesn't register.
I'd say don't buff, but one would be nice?
 
I understand completely why airblast gives rage, and the flarejumping problem is much like the dangers of rocketjumping, with most deaths being from the player panicking and just trying to escape the hale even though there is no chance of surviving any type of fall, but i think Pyro deserves a buff because overall he's just plain weak here. The problems with survivability are easily overlooked if he could deal large amounts of damage, byt the problem here is that he doesnt. Pyros dont seem to me to break 1-1.5k very often. Every other class, however, seems to easily get past this range, and they all get to remain out of melee range of the hale. Its just that pyros cant deal any real damage because they HAVE to get fairly close to use their strongest weapons, meaning that a lot of the time if theyre not in a very large group , are übered, or have activated the phlogs protection, then theyre basically kamikaze-ing the hale
 
Pyro in Hale mode needs no buff at all. Camp near a dispenser with your airblast & reserve shooter ready. You can be annoying to the Hale, stopping him from getting close to you at all. The reserve shooter can also do significant damage enough that the Hale may just leave you alone, if you're good with it.

Only thing I think needs buffing for the Pyro is the resistance the Pyro gets after using the phlog ability. It's a little too low so it's not a good trade to using the phlog instead of a normal flamethrower with airblast instead. And you can taunt normally to get the crit boost for the phlog without the special ability, so the only advantage the phlog would have over other flamethrowers is just the reistance to melee damage. That's why I think there should be a slight buff to just the phlog resistance, I think the rest of the Pyro is fine. And if you use the reserve shooter then that's worse because that gives the hale more reason to just solo rage you to death, and the hale has a lot of health so there's no damage advantage with the reserve shooter since it'll take ages for the damage to pile up anyway, really :p
 
Maybe perma-crits for the shotgun would be in order. I think there is currently a lot of support for demos getting perma crits on their nade launcher when combined with a shield, so pyro with crit shotguns doesn't seem outlandish to me. It would also make the shotgun an actual alternative to the flare gun.

Perma crits on the shotgun is an excellent idea, Pyro has always lacked long range reliable damage

Frankly, that sounds like a terrible idea. The hale would just use you to farm rage, as it is a very common tactic as hale to rush at Pyros without attacking, just so that you can get airblasted and get rage. So yeah, youre a slight inconvenience at chokepoints, but more often than nit youre being used by the hale and just screwing over your team, especially with rages like Gaben's
 
That's what i was thinking of when i was saying pyro needs a damage buff. Since the Phlogistinator's charge is built by damage, a buff to pyro's flamethrowers overall would mean that the Phlog charge is built faster and able to be used nore, making pyro much like an overhealed heavy, capable of dealing immense damage while not being a target you can get rid of easily, albiet a bit easier than heavy due to the lack of knockback. As well as this, an overall damage buff would make sure that the Phlog doesnt just become the meta weapon for this mode.
